Communication and Public Engagement Skill Building Sessions
Opens 26 Feb 2024 08:00 AM (PST)
Deadline 31 Dec 2024 05:00 PM (PST)
Description

The Kavli Foundation invites applications for funding from Kavli Institutes to host sessions or workshops to build communication and public engagement skills in your Kavli Institute community. Since 2022, The Kavli Foundation has offered the virtual Kavli SciComm Essentials for the Kavli Institute community. Many who have attended these virtual trainings have reported interest in attending in-person trainings or workshops at their institution. In-person sessions are highly sought after, especially by early career scientists. They provide opportunities to practice new skills and receive real-time feedback from experts in addition to serving the broader community by building connections among Institute members. For Kavli Institutes who would like to lead and plan an in-person communications or engagement workshop or similar activity, The Kavli Foundation will consider co-funding this opportunity.

Applications will be considered on a rolling basis. The foundation will consider supporting no more than 50% of the cost of the workshop/activities, up to a total contribution of $15,000. The foundation is able to support up to 15% of indirect costs within this $15,000 limit. This funding opportunity is only available to Kavli Institutes, and the foundation will only be able to consider one request per Institute per year. The workshops/activities will be planned and hosted fully by the applicant, not by the foundation.

Application Period: through December 31, 2024.

Review Period: Applications will be reviewed within approximately one month of submission. If you are on a shorter timeline, please email science.and.society@kavlifoundation.org and this may be accelerated on a case-by-case basis.
